Q&A with Madison Massey, 性福五月天 University Employee Wellness & Health Promotion Coordinator

Madison Massey
  • What sparked your interest in wellness and health?
I have worked as an Exercise Physiologist and Personal Trainer for almost 6 years now. Although I love the fitness side of wellness, I realized there was more to wellness than just exercise. I was happy to accept the position at 性福五月天 in Employee Wellness because I get to help employees feel their best by focusing on the 8 Dimensions of Wellness.

  • What sparked your interest in sustainability in both your professional and/or personal life?
I learned a lot more about sustainability and how it affects our daily lives after starting at 性福五月天. Learning about sustainability on campus and sustainable eating through Be Well really got me wanting to spread this knowledge to our employees. Every April, our theme for the month is sustainability and I love getting to partner with different entities to spread the word about sustainable living.

  • What is your favorite part of your position?
I truly love getting to work with so many people- whether that is our employees or collaborations outside of 性福五月天. I also love how much creativity I get to bring to my position. It is fun trying to find new ways to get employees involved in Wellness through webinars, events and more!

  • What are your favorite accomplishments or projects you have worked on (or upcoming projects you鈥檙e looking forward to)?
I am very proud of the awards we have won, our Heart Health for All Luncheon and our Mobile Mammograms program. In 2024, we won GOLD for the American Heart Association Well-Being Works Better scorecard, SILVER as a Healthy Business Council of Ohio Healthy Worksite and the Excellence Award for Cancer Screenings through Healthy Business Council of Ohio.
Through these recognitions and feedback from our employees, we can see what is important on campus- this is why every year we host the Heart Health for All Luncheon and our Mobile Mammograms program. Our Heart Health for All Luncheon lets people come together in February during Heart Health month to learn the importance of taking care of our hearts. In April and October, we have a mobile mammogram unit parked at Heer Hall for 4 days so employees can get screened for breast cancer through a mammogram. We hope to keep holding these events yearly and hope to keep providing learning opportunities to our employees!

  • What do you want people to know about Employee Wellness and Health Promotion? We truly want to make the Employee Wellness program a success by listening to our employees and providing them with the best programming possible. That being said, we are working every day to bring resources to our employees that will help them in whatever wellness journey they are on!

  • What sustainability initiatives is Employee Wellness and Health Promotion working on this year and/or in the past? Can you tell us more about how you and/or Employee Wellness and Health Promotion is advancing sustainability?
Our favorite ways to promote sustainability are being a part of Earth Month and promoting Farmers Markets on and off campus. As part of the Employee Wellness program, we offer "points" for participating in certain wellness initiatives in return for a monetary incentive. During Earth Month, we offer points for most of the events offered so our employees can be exposed to more sustainability initiatives and learn more about who is leading these initiatives on/off campus. We also promote use of Farmers Markets! Having the Haymaker Farmers Market come to campus really helps our employees gain access to such an important program.

  • Where is one of your favorite spots to visit on campus? And what makes it your favorite?
I love the trail next to the CDC and behind UFM! Being on a college campus, there are not many quiet/private spaces. This trail is tucked away, covered by trees and goes right next to wetlands where you can see a wide variety of birds! When the weather is nice, I enjoy walking the path on my lunch break and taking in the scenery.

Thank you Madison!
