This emerging media & technology seminar course seeks to provide an investigative and experiential learning environment, in which students learn about the platforms and technologies behind Smart Devices, from edge devices to core cloud services through research and hands-on activities. Topics covered include background in 鈥淚nternet of Things鈥 (IoT), physical sensing, platforms, and security. The course culminates with small teams of students developing a Smart Device and connecting it to a cloud-based IoT service.
This class will begin with an overview of security from one of the industry鈥檚 foremost authorities on cyber security. A review and understanding of cyber security and privacy regulations will leave the student with a solid foundation that the role that risk and trust play in keeping data safe. The bulk of the course will focus on the application and information development process to ensure that cyber security and privacy regulations, controls, and standards are designed into the solution.
