Kent Salem Hosts Horticulture Entrepreneurship Seminar
Salem, Ohio β ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ University at Salem hosted a gathering of students and industry experts for a horticulture/entrepreneurship seminar named βWhat Makes Us Grow.β
Students from ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ Salem, Columbiana County Career and Technical Center and the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center listened as representatives from local βgreenβ companies discussed all aspects of the business side of the industry.
The discussions included insight into hiring practices, resume writing, seasonal trends, starting a business and the skills and education needed to succeed.
Panel participants included Emily Showalter, director of human resources at Willoway Nurseries in Avon; George Hohman, president of Turfscape Inc. in Cleveland and Akron; Seth DeHoff, owner of DeHoffβs FGL in Alliance; Chris Carlson, associate professor at Kent Salem; and Richard Lutsch, of Byler, Wolfe, Lutesch & Kampfer CPAs in Salem.
The audience also included members of ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ Salemβs horticulture advisory board, who offered the students additional insight into the industry, as well as the campusβs horticulture faculty members.
