Selection Process

The OTA program admits two cohorts of 25 students each in the spring of each year to the technical study portion of the program for a fall start. One cohort includes the full-time and part-time hybrid tracks with labs at the Ashtabula campus. The other cohort includes the full-time and part-time traditional face-to-face tracks with lectures and labs held on the East Liverpool campus.  If there are more qualified applicants than available student slots, applicants will be ranked on a point scale.  Points are assigned based on grade point average (GPA), writing sample, and completion of open enrollment courses. The candidates with the highest points will be accepted.

Applicants who have not met all program admission requirements may be provisionally accepted, pending successful completion (C or better grade) of the courses by the end of the pre-semester (summer). Provisionally accepted students who do not meet all program admission requirements at the conclusion of this semester will not be eligible to progress to the technical study portion of the program.

Applicants will be notified by their kent.edu email of acceptance status within one month of the application deadline. Information regarding the selection results will not be given over the phone. Students may only apply to the OTA program two times.
