High school juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to learn about ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ Universityβs chemistry programs at the βExplore Kent Chemistry Dayβ on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Williams Hall on the Kent Campus.
βExplore Kent Chemistry Day gives an excellent introduction to the chemistry and biochemistry programs at ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ University,β said Michael Tubergen, Ph.D., chair of ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμβs Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. βHigh school students can learn a lot about career opportunities in chemistry and biochemistry, and undergraduate ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ students will describe their experiences as chemistry majors at the Saturday morning event. Our graduates are finding employment locally, regionally and nationally, and are entering highly ranked graduate programs. ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμβs biochemistry degree tracks provide excellent preparation for further training in medicine, pharmacy and other medical professions. We encourage everybody to come and learn more about chemistry at ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ.β
The dayβs activities include a tour of the department, an outline of degree programs and undergraduate research opportunities, an overview of available scholarships, and a presentation of career opportunities in chemistry. A special demonstration will take place in the departmentβs main lecture hall. Current ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ students and faculty will be available to answer questions during an informal lunch, where two $50 Amazon gift cards will be raffled.
ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμβs Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees in chemistry, including a B.S. concentration in biochemistry and an interdisciplinary B.S. in biotechnology.
βExplore Kent Chemistry Dayβ will begin in the lobby area of Williams Hall, located at 1175 Risman Drive near East Summit Street. A map of the ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ campus is available online at www.kent.edu. For more information or to register for the event, call 330-672-0030 or e-mail enmichae@kent.edu.
